"Ludlow had this as its first handstamp, apparently starting in 1835, where it has been reported only with the 6 denomination, printed in red. The year date was not included. Ludlow at this time was a very small village, and few overs of this period are available. As a result the item is quite rate." (p. 74, The Postal History of Vermont, Slawson, Bingham, & Drenan, 1969).

Update: The 25c example was sold on eBay in November, 2005. Only 1 copy is known at the present time
